TANGERMÜNDE, a town of the Prussian monarchy, in the province of Saxony, at the confluence of the Elbe with the Tanger, 32 miles N.N.E. of Magdeburg. It is an ancient town, historically remarkable as having been the first residence of the electors of the house of Hohenzollern. It contains a castle, a church, hospitals, and public offices. There are breweries, oil-mills, and manufactories of leaden shot here; and some trade is carried on in corn and cattle. Pop. 4580.
