TRUXILLO, a town of Northern Peru, capital of the department of Libertad, is pleasantly situated in an extensive valley, about two miles from the sea, in Lat. 8.7. S., Long. 79.4. W. It was founded by Pizarro in 1535, and named after his birthplace. The streets are wide and regular, and it contains several handsome buildings, the chief of which are the cathedral and town-hall.
