USTING, sometimes entitled VELIKI, or the Great, a town of European Russia, in the government and 230 miles N.E. of Vologda, at the confluence of the Suchona and the Jug, which form the Dwina. It is the see of an archbishop; and contains 3 cathedrals, 20 other churches, several convents, an exchange, and other public buildings. Soap, candles, hosiery, hardware, and jewellery are manufactured here; and there is an extensive trade. Pop. 7959.
