VALENCIA, a town of Venezuela, capital of a province in the department and 80 miles W.S.W. of Caracas, near the western shore of the lake of Valencia, or Tacarigua. It covers a large space of ground, and is generally well built, containing a parish church in the principal square. As it stands in a fertile region, and is connected by good roads with Caracas and Puerto Caballo, Valencia is a place of considerable trade. Pop. 16,000.
