VELEZ Rubio, a town of Spain, Andalusia, in the province and 54 miles N.N.E. of Almería. It is walled, and contains a handsome church, a large court-house, with a prison attached to it, several schools, and an extensive foundling hospital. Woollen and linen cloth, flour, and oil are made here; and some trade is carried on in these articles, and in the produce of the surrounding country. In the vicinity there are mineral springs. Pop. 12,342.
