VERNON, a town of France, in the department of Eure, on the left bank of the Seine, here crossed by a bridge, 13 miles N.W. of Mantes. It consists of narrow crooked streets, lined with old timber-framed houses, which have a somewhat venerable appearance. It has an old Gothic church, a college, and fine boulevards, occupying the site of the former fortifications. There are here no manufactures of any importance, but some trade is carried on in corn, wine, and building-stone. Pop. 6463.
