LEBADEA, or LEBADEA (modern Livadha), a town of Bœotia, near the frontiers of Phœcis, between Chœronœa and Mount Helicon. It is famous as the seat of the oracle of Trophonius; and in the time of Pausanias it seems to have been the most prosperous city of Bœotia. The town was twice plundered by Lysander; and by Archelaus, the general of Mithridates.
