in botany, a genus of the syngenesia polygamia-superflua class. The receptacle of the amellus is paleaceous; the calyx is squarious; and the rays of the corollae undivided. There are only two species of this genus, viz. the lychnitis, a native of the Cape; and the umbellatus, a native of Jamaica.
