or Cashew-nut-tree, in botany, a genus of the decandria monogynia clasps, of which there is but one species, viz. the occidentale, a native of the Indies. The calyx is divided into five parts; the flower consists of one quinquefide petal; the fruit is a kidney-shaped nut, inclosed in a fleshy receptacle. The kernel is of the same nature with an almond. The acrid juice contained between the kernels is recommended for tetter and other curaneous diseases.
