a genus of insects belonging to the order of vermes mollusca. The body is cylindrical and sheathy; it has two apertures towards the top, the one a little lower than the other. There are six species of this insect, viz. the papillosum, gelatinosum, intestinalis, quadridentata, quadridentata, rustica, and echinata, all inhabitants of the ocean.
