in botany, a genus of the hexandria monogynia class. The corolla consists of six erect divisions; the three inferior petals are bent outwards; the berry has three cells, and contains two seeds. There are 14 species of asparagus, only one of which, viz., the officinalis, is a native of Britain. This species is commonly used as food; but it is also supposed to promote urine.
