Volume 1 · 68 words · 1771 Edition

is a gummy resinous concreted juice, brought from Arabia and the E. Indies, in globes of different figures and magnitudes. It is of a dark reddish brown colour, and, in appearance, somewhat resembles myrrh; and is recommended as a sudorific, diuretic, and uterine; and in external applications, for maturing tumours, &c. In the present practice, it is scarce otherwise made use of, than as an ingredient in theriaca.
