in heraldry, is the field divided into four, six, or more parts, diagonally, and varying in metal and colour.

The general custom of England is to make an even number, but in other countries they regard it not, whether even or odd. See Plate LI. fig. 12.

Counter Bendy is used by the French, to express what we ordinarily call bendy of six per bend sinister, counterchanged.
