or CARLINE THISTLE, in botany, a genus of the syngenesia polygamia æqualis clas. The calyx is radiated, with long coloured scales. There are seven species, only one of which, viz. the vulgaris, is a native of Britain. The roots are said to be diaphoritic and alexipharmic.
