the name of certain courts of justice established in several cities in France. The grand chatelet at Paris, is the place where the presidial or ordinary court of justice of the provost of Paris is kept; consisting of a presidial, a civil chamber, a criminal chamber, and a chamber of policy. The little chatelet is an old fort, now serving as a prison.
