in botany, a genus of the cryptogamia fungi clas. It is smooth and oblong. The species are eight, seven of which are natives of Britain. viz. the piliflarris, or simple clavaria; the ophioglossoides, or black clavaria; the digitata, or fingered clavaria; the hypoxylon, or flat clavaria; the coralloides, or yellow clavaria; the fastigiata, or stinking clavaria; and the muscoides, or pointed clavaria.

CLAVES INSULÆ, a term used in the isle of Man; where all weighty and ambiguous causes are referred to a jury of twelve, who are called claves insulae, the keys of the island.
