The invention of clocks is attributed to Pacificus, archdeacon of Verona, who lived in the time of Lotha rius: others ascribe it to Boetius, about the year 510: be that as it will, it is certain, that the art of making clocks, such as are now in use, was either first invented, or at least retrieved in Germany, about 230 years ago; and the invention of pendulum clocks, so late as the last age, is disputed between Huygens and Galileo.
