or Job's tears, in botany, a genus of the monoecia triandra clas. The calyx of the male is a double-flowered glume, without any awn; the corolla is likewise a glume without an awn: the calyx of the female is an open, oval, one-flowered glume; the stylum is bifid; and the seed is cartilaginous. There is but one species, viz. the latifolia, a native of Jamaica.
