or Saffron, in botany, a genus of the triandra monogynia clasps. The corolla is divided into six equal parts; and it has three erect stigmata. There is but one species, a native of Britain. The antherae, or claves, picked off and pressed together into cakes, goes by the name of saffron, which is an elegant and useful aromatic, and is deservedly accounted one of the highest cordials.
