in botany, a genus of the triandra monogynia clas. The gluma is paleaceous and imbricated; it has no corolla, and but one naked seed. There are twenty species, only one of which is a native of Britain, viz. the longus, sweet cyperus, or English galingale; the root is carminative and attenuant.
