Daduch, in antiquity, priests of the goddess Ceres, so called, because at the feasts and sacrifices of that goddess, they ran about the temple, carrying a lighted torch, which they delivered from hand to hand, till it had passed through them all. This they did in memory of Ceres's searching for her daughter Proserpine, by the light of a torch, which she kindled in mount Aetna.
