the CARROT, in botany, a genus of plants belonging to the pentandria digynia clas. The corollae are subradiated, and all hermaphrodite; and the seeds are rough and hairy. There are five species, only one of which, viz. the carota, wild-carrot, or bird's-nest, is a native of Britain. The seeds are said to be diuretic and carminative.
