DITTANY, in botany, a genus of the decandria monogynia clas. The calyx consists of five leaves, and the corolla of five open petals; the filaments have many glandular points; and the five capsules are united. There is but one species, viz. the obulus, a native of Italy. The root is said to be alexipharmic, but is not regarded in practice.
