a measure of length, different in different countries; but those mostly used, are the English and Flemish ells; whereof the former is three feet nine inches, or one yard and a quarter; and the latter only twenty-seven inches, or three quarters of a yard. In Scotland, the ell contains 37 1/2 English inches.
