HERCINIAN forest, a forest which anciently extended the whole length of Germany and Bohemia, some remains of which are still in being, viz. the Black Forest, Odenwald near Heidelberg, Stigewald in Wurtzburg, and Bamberg, and Hartifwald in Brunswic.
