or St Laurence, an island of Africa, situated between 43° and 51° of east longitude, and between 12° and 26° south latitude; three hundred miles south-east of the continent of Africa. It is about a thousand miles in length from north to south, and generally between two and three hundred miles broad. The country is divided among a great number of petty sovereigns.
