in general, denotes any production that deviates from the species to which it belongs, whether with respect to the number or disposition of its parts; in which sense, a man with six fingers on each hand, or six toes on each foot, is a monster. But the term monster seems to be chiefly applied to such productions as deviate very much from the ordinary course of nature.
