the water-lily, in botany, a genus of the polyandra monogynia clas. The corolla consists of many petals, and the calyx of four or five leaves; and the berry has many cells. There are four species, two of which are natives of Britain, viz. the lutea, or yellow water-lily; and the alba, or white water-lily.
