in botany, a genus of the diandria monogynia class. The corolla is ringent; the calyx is bilabiate; and the capsule has but one cell. There are four species, two of them natives of Britain, viz. the vulgaris, or butter-wort; and the lusitanica, or Cornwall butter-wort.
