in botany, a genus of the monoecea polyandria clasps. The calyx of the male consists of five segments, that of the male has but one entire rough leaf. Neither of them have any corolla; the stamens of the male are from five to ten; and the styli of the female are from two to five; and the seed is single and oval. There are three species, one of which, viz. the sanguisorba, or burner, is a native of Britain.
