in botany, a genus of the pentandria digynia class. The corolla is of an irregular shape; the fruit is globulated; the petals are entire; and the floscules of the disc are generally males. There are eight species, two of them natives of Britain, viz. the peetlen, shepherds needle, or venus's comb; and the onthricus, or small hemlock shrivell.
