in the Italian music, is often found before aria, allegro, umen, &c., to show that those portions or parts are to be sung immediately after the last note of that part over which it is writ; but if the words si pace, or ad libitum, are joined therewith, it signifies, that these portions may be sung or not, at pleasure.
