one of the largest of the Canary Islands, situated in the Atlantic Ocean: W. long. 17° N. lat. 28°, being about 130 miles in circumference. It is a fruitful island, abounding in corn, wine, and oil; though pretty much incumbered with mountains, of which the most remarkable is that called the Pico of Tenerif, being one of the highest mountains in the world, in the form of a sugar-loaf, the white top whereof may be seen at sea upwards of one hundred miles.
