in botany, a genus of the icofandria polygynia clas. The calix consists of eight segments, and the corolla of four petals; the seeds are roundish, naked, and fixed to a small dry receptacle. There are two species, both natives of Britain, viz. the erecta, or tormentil; and the reptans, or creeping tormentil.
