in botany, a genus of the syngenesia polygamia equalis class. The receptacle is naked; the calyx is simple, and consists of many leaves; and the papus is feathered. There are eleven species, two of them natives of Britain, viz., the pratense, or yellow goat's-beard; and the porifolium, or purple goat's-beard.
