in church-history, an order of nuns, founded originally by St Angela of Brescia, in the year fifteen hundred thirty-seven, and so called from St Ursula, to whom they were dedicated. They observe the rules of St Augustine, and are chiefly noted for taking on them the education and instruction of young maids: their monasteries are a kind of schools where young ladies of the best families receive their education.
