AGURIUM

Volume 1 · 64 words · 1778 Edition

or Agrium, (anc. geogr.) a town of Sicily in the Val di Demona, near the river Sementus. The people were called Populus Agyrinensis by Cicero; Agyrinus, by Pliny. It was the birth-place of Diodorus Siculus, as he himself testifies; but he calls it Argirium, as it is now called S. Philippo d'Argirone, which modern name seems to confirm that Argirium is the true reading.
