an island of Denmark, in North Jutland, lying in the Categat, eight miles from the coast of Jutland, ten from Zealand, and seven from Holland. It is dangerous for seamen, for which reason there is a light-house.

a principality of Germany, in the circle of Upper Saxony, about 42 miles in length, and eight in breadth. It is bounded on the S. by the county of Mansfield, on the W. by the duchy of Halberstadt; on the E. by the duchy of Saxony, and on the N. by the duchy of Magdeburg. It abounds in corn, and is watered by the Salde and Mulda; its principal trade is in beer.
