an island in the north-west part of Lin- colnshire in England. It is formed by the rivers Trent, Idel, and Dan; and is about ten miles long and five broad. The lower part is marshy, but produces an odoriferous shrub called gale; the middle is rich and fruitful, yielding flax in great abundance, as also ala- bastrum which is used for making lime. The principal town is called Axey, and is now very thinly inhabited.
