To punish the people for their inhospitality, these gods laid the country waste with water; but took Baucis and Philémon with them to the top of a mountain, where they saw the deluge, and their own little hut above the waters, turned into a temple: having a wish granted them, they desired to officiate in this temple as priest and priestess, and also that they might die both together; which was granted them.
