(Balthazar), one of the most famous Dutch divines, and author of the celebrated book, The World bewitched, an ingenious piece, against the vulgar notion of spirits. This raised a terrible clamour against him. He was deposed from the office of minister; but the magistrates of Amsterdam continued him his pension. He died in 1698.
