in ornithology, a genus belonging to the order of picas. The beak is straight and quadrangular; the mandibles are gibbous, entire, and the gibbosity is greater on the outside. The feet are of the ambulatory kind. The body is greyish above, and of a dirty yellow below; the tail is shaped like a wedge. There is but one species, viz. the africana, a native of Senegal. It frequently perches upon oxen, and picks out the worms from their backs.
