Of the 11 great, or 21 small communities, there are but two that speak speak the German language; that of the rest is called the Rhetic, and is a dialect of the Italian. The Pro- testant religion is most prevalent in this league, which has been allied to the Swiss cantons ever since the year 1498. Coire is the capital town.
