CANZONETTA

Volume 3 · 50 words · 1778 Edition

a diminutive of canzone, denoting a little short song. The canzonette neapolitan has two strains, each whereof is sung twice over, as the vaudevilles of the French: the canzonette siciliane is a species of jig, the measure whereof is usually twelve eighths, and six eighths, and sometimes both, as rondellas.
