The province of Caramanta is extended on both sides the river Caucu; and is bounded on the N. by the district of Carthagena, on the E. by New Granada, on the S. by Popayan, and on the W. by Popayan and by the audience of Panama. It is a valley surrounded on every side by very high mountains.
