It has a great number of rivers, the principal of which are the Meuse, the Seine, the Marne, the Aube, and the Aine. Its principal trade consists in excellent wine, all sorts of corn, linen, cloth, woollen stuffs, cattle, and sheep. It is also divided into the higher and lower, and Troyes is the capital town. Its sub-divisions are Champagne Proper, and Rheims, the Retelais, the Perois, the Valaise, Bassigni, the Senonais, and the Brie Champenois.

CHAMPAGNE Proper, is one of the eight parts of Champagne, which comprehend the towns of Troyes, Chalons, St Menchois, Epernay, and Vertus.
