the capital town in the island of Minorca, in the Mediterranean, with a new harbour. This, with the whole island, were taken by general Stanhope and the confederate fleet in 1768, and ceded to Great Britain by the treaty of Utrecht in 1713; but it was taken by the French, after a brave defence, in 1756; and restored by the peace.
