fiddle-wood; a genus of the angiopteris order, belonging to the didymia class of plants. There are two species, both natives of the warm parts of America, where they grow to be large trees, and are adorned with white flowers growing in spikes. In Britain they appear only as shrubs, and must be constantly retained in the stove, where they make a fine appearance, being beautiful evergreens. They may be propagated either by seeds or cuttings.
