a considerable town of Germany, in the circle of the upper Rhine, and in the Buchow, with a celebrated abbey; whose abbot is primate of the abbeys of the empire, perpetual chancellor of the emperor, and sovereign of a small territory lying between Hesse, Franconia, and Thuringia. It is seated on the river Fulde, 55 miles south of Cassel, and 58 north-east of Francfort. E. Long. 9° 53'. N. Lat. 50° 40'.
