a famous island of Japan, about three miles in circumference, lying on the south coast of Nippon. It is here they confine their great men when they have committed any fault. The coast of this island is so steep, that they are forced to be lifted up by cranes.

KAMINIECK, a very strong town of Poland, and capital of Podolia, with two castles, and a bishop's see. It was taken by the Turks in 1672, who gave it back in 1690, after the treaty of Carlowitz. It is seated on a craggy rock, in E. Long. 27°. 30'. N. Lat. 48°. 58'.
